Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of The Sultanate of Oman, calls on Professor G.L. Peiris

Mr. Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of The Sultanate of Oman, called on Professor G.L. Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, at the Ministry.

Among the matters discussed were trade relations, with particular reference to tea and oil, investment opportunities and exchange of trade delegations, the proposed opening of a Resident Mission of Oman in Colombo, employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in Oman, and cultural co-operation.

The visit of the Foreign Minister of Oman takes place against the backdrop of Sri Lanka’s initiatives to expand its historical ties with the Arab world.

Boost to Oman-Lanka relations, MoU signed

Colombo — Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, yesterday held a number of meetings during his official visit to Sri Lanka.
The Minister 1351707458030901900 Responsible for Foreign Affairs signed a memorandum of understanding with Professor G L Peiris, Minister of External Affairs related to political talks between the Sultanate and Sri Lanka, at the premises of the Sri Lankan foreign ministry.
The two sides also held talks in the presence of the delegation accompanying Alawi and top officials at the Sri Lankan foreign ministry.
They discussed ways of promoting the Omani-Sri Lankan relations in various aspects, exchange of visits between officials and businessmen with the aim of exploring investment opportunities in both countries.
Meanwhile, the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs also held separate meetings with Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Petroleum Industries and Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development. — ONA

Oman, Sri Lanka boost ties

Colombo: President Mahinda Rajapaksa of the Republic of Sri Lanka received Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah in Colombo, yesterday.

During the meeting, the Omani foreign minister conveyed His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's sincere greetings and good wishes to the Sri Lankan president and to the country's people, wishing them further progress and prosperity.

In his turn, President Mahinda requested the Omani foreign minister to convey his sincere greetings and good wishes to His Majesty the Sultan and to the Omani people.

The meeting was attended, from the Omani side by Ambassador Saud bin Ahmed Al Barwani, head of West Asia Department, Ambassador Mohammed bin Awadh Al Hassan, head of the Political-Analysis Office and the Minister's Office Department; and the delegation accompanying the minister.

From the Sri Lankan side, the meeting was attended by Professor Gamini Lakshman Peiris, Sri Lankan foreign minister and the secretary-general of the foreign ministry.

MoU signed
According to Lankan official media reports, on Wednesday Alawi signed a memorandum of understanding with Professor G L Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, related to political talks between the Sultanate and Sri Lanka, on the premises of the Sri Lankan foreign ministry.
