A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Foreign Employment and Welfare Minister
Dilan Perera and Oman's Manpower Minister Sheik Abdullah Al Bakari in relation to cooperation, promotion
and development of labour and training.
The MoU was signed at the Manpower Ministry in Muscat, Oman recently.
It is expected to share information between the two countries to prevent illegal overseas recruiting and human
trafficking.
It was also agreed to provide technical, educational, professional and operational counselling for migrant
workers and provide specialised training and knowledge.
The two ministers held bilateral talks at the ministry in Muscat. Minster Bakari said migrant workers will not be
treated in a different manner in Oman.
"They will be treated equally as citizens of Oman," he said. Minister Perera said he will take steps to educate
migrant workers about the labour laws and regulations in Oman during training sessions. Sri Lankan
Ambassador in Oman Ashoka Girihagama, SLBFE director administration Susil Ranasinghe and SLBFE
foreign relations Deputy Director Mangala Randeniya were also present.
