Book titled “Winning an Unwinnable War – A Tribute to the War Heroes”

A book titled “Winning an Unwinnable War - A Tribute to the War Heroes” written by Mr. J.F. Ranjith Perera, the former Director General of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board was launched by Secretary/External Affairs on 26^th August 2011 at the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management.

The book is an evaluation of the political leadership and the contribution made by the security forces, to eradicate terrorism from Sri Lanka. Once it was considered that the LTTE, which was known as the most ruthless terrorist organization in the world, could not be defeated militarily due to its financial and military strength. Hence, our political leadership and security forces had in fact “Won an Unwinnable War”. It is considered as the most outstanding historical achievement of our country in the 21^st century.

A copy of the book has been handed over to H.E. the President by the author on 24^th February, 2012 at the Temple Trees. On that occasion, H.E. the President has commended Mr. Perera for his outstanding and inspiring work, which inter-alia, highlights the commitment and the services rendered by the Defence Forces in defeating terrorism thus paving the way for ushering in a new era for all Sri Lankans.
