Relief Assistance to Flood Victims in Sri Lanka

As you are aware, heavy pre-monsoon rains which continue from 20th May 2018 have caused severe flooding and the threat of landslides in Sri Lanka. As per the Disaster Situation Report, released by the National Disaster Relief Services Centre (NDRSC) today (27.05.2018), at least twenty three lives have been lost and 166,228 people (43,604 families) have been affected in 20 districts due to the adverse weather conditions. Flooding and subsequent potential landslide threats have forced the evacuation of people in low lying areas. Four main rivers have reached flood levels while four districts are on the red alert for possible landslides. Spill gates of many reservoirs have been opened across the island.

The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources and Disaster Management together with security forces personnel are engaged in relief work.

The people and the government of Sri Lanka are grateful for the concern and support being expressed by the Sri Lankan expatriates and the international community and their desire to assist Sri Lanka at this difficult juncture.

The Sri Lankan expatriate community in Oman and the well-wishers in the Sultanate can contribute towards the flood relief work conducted by the National Disaster Relief Service Centre by sending financial contributions directly to:
