Donations for Flood Relief in Sri Lanka

Thousands of people have been displaced while many have lost their lives following continuous rain prevailing over the last few days throughout the Island. 242,152 persons have been displaced, and 22 out of the 25 districts in Sri Lanka have been affected.

The Sri Lankan expatriate community in Oman can assist in bringing relief to the affected people.An arrangement has been made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombowhereby the Embassy can accept cash donations and transmit the same to the Government of Sri Lanka, for providing relief to the affected people.The Embassy will issue an official receipt for all the cash donations would be made.

Considering the time factor, the cost involved in transporting the relief materials and the possible difficulties that could arise during customsclearance, it is encouraged to provide monetary assistance rather than send relief items.Please note that the Embassy does not have any monetary provisions to bear the cost of air/shippingfreight for sending relief items to Sri Lanka. Moreover, cash donations are encouraged, as it is more economical to purchase immediate relief items locally

Special Notice No 2

Donations for Flood Relief in Sri Lanka

Further to Embassy’s notice dated 20th May 2016 and the discussions on the above.

The Ministry of Disaster Management together with the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine has identified the following list of immediate relief material and medical items required as relief assistance for the victims of the floods and landslides in Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Finance has decided that the taxes and charges related to these items (Customs Import Duty. VAT, PAL. NBT, SCL, Excise (Special Provision Duty and EDB CESS) will be exempted on the recommendation of the Secretary/ Ministry of Disaster Management or Secretary/ Ministry of Health on case by case by basis. Please also note the following vital information in this regard;

The consignee in Colombo will have to obtain recommendation from Ministry of Disaster Management or the Ministry of Heath for the consignment.
Further, all relief items, other than the medicine and medical equipment should be released/handed over to the Secretary/Ministry of Disaster Management or to any other relevant Government authority/ies recommended by the Secretary, Disaster Management.
All medicine and medical equipment should be released/handed over to the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine.
The facility will be allowed only up to 30th June 2016. All consignments are required to comply with necessary requirements, regulatory and security clearance.
Any items cleared under these concessions should not be sold, hired, leased, disposed or used for any other purposes. �
